Construction brick fun with Strictly Briks

Construction brick fun with Strictly Briks – AD sent for review

It will come as no surprise that my nine-year-old son is often happiest when he’s creating things.  I gave up on having a toy-free living room years ago and these days his small world play creations are on view for all to see.  He’s been adding to his builds and having construction brick fun with Strictly Briks with their Brik Tower and Classic Brik set.

You may recall that this isn’t our first experience with Strictly Briks as we reviewed their Trap and Gap Baseplates last year.  Strictly Briks are designed to work with other leading construction brick sets and their sets provide children with hours of imaginative play possibilities.

The Brik Tower set is aimed at children aged 5 years and over and comes with 6 baseplates (152mmx152mm) and 50 stackers.  The stackers and baseplates in this particular set are grey, blue and green, but Strictly Briks also offer them in various other colours too.

The 156 piece Classic Brik set is aimed at children aged 4 years and over and comes with bricks in a range of colours and sizes.  the bag is also resealable which is useful.

The stackers mean that you can build different levels with this set and you can vary the height between the baseplates depending on the number of stackers you use.  My son likes everything to be a uniform height though.

To start with my son decided that he’d use the Brik Tower as a display tower for some of his construction brick cars.

As much as I liked the idea of my son actually wanting to be tidy, I knew it wouldn’t last, and that he’d soon come up with a more fun way to use his sets.  There was no way he wasn’t going to take over some more space in the living room! As I’ve already mentioned, the Strictly Briks are fully compatible with other brands of construction bricks, so my son was soon hard at work having construction brick fun with Strictly Briks.

He decided to combine part of his existing Strictly Briks set with his new one, along with other construction bricks to make a skyscraper.  Over a few days, the build progressed and lots of new elements were added to his build.

He’d soon added a lift, an outside staircase and an aerial for communications.  The sets have been a great addition for his creativity and he’s had so much fun coming up with new ideas of how to incorporate them in his play world.

The bricks and baseplates are well made and fit together well.  My son recommends that you use place some of the stackers in the middle of the baseplates for added support to ensure that your tower doesn’t collapse.  This also helps if you have a four-month-old kitten who like nothing more than providing an earthquake test for my son’s creations!
