Today I’m sharing with you a newly published novel called Pivotal which is written by Nikki Vallance and published through Hashtag Press. Telling the story of four women in their forties and how a pivotal decision could change their lives.

Pivotal

Pivotal is told through the eyes of the four different female characters – Dulcie, Elizabeth, Annie and Liza.  They lead totally different lives and in Dulcie’s case, not even in the same country.  They all were born with the same surname, Braybrooke.  Each is told that they stand to share an inheritance which could be life-changing, but there are strings attached which means that each of them will have to face feelings left deeply hidden for many years.  But they don’t have long to face their pasts, a decision must be made quickly on whether they will agree to the terms of the bequest.

You have no idea what the connection is between each of the characters, although you presume that somehow they must be related, but how? They haven’t met each other and as the story of Pivotal progresses, you become aware of their frailties and what they may be running from.

Each of them seeks help from Dr Kath O’Hannon, a hypnotherapist so that they can make their decision, face their demons and move on with their lives. What would you do, if you were offered an inheritance from someone you’d never met, but you were told you’d have to share it with people you didn’t know and work together to run a Tango dancing school.  Could you uproot your life and start again with so many unknowns? Unknowns that would also probably push you to face family you’d walked away from many years before.

I found Pivotal compelling, I couldn’t work out which way each of the women would go, or what their connection would be.  I can’t tell you about the ending as it’s totally unexpected and has left me feeling that I’m going to read the book again to try to find the clues that I’d clearly missed.  It’s a very different read.
