Mölkky Original from Tactic Games – AD review and giveaway

disclosure: we were sent the item mentioned in exchange for an honest review

With the glorious weather we’ve been having, it’s been the perfect time to try out Mölkky Original from Tactic Games which we received recently.  This wooden garden game is perfect for the family to play together, is aimed at players aged six years and over and can be played with two or more players.

Molkky Original from Tactic Games

Mölkky Original from Tactic Games comes with wooden pins which are numbered from 1-12, the Mölkky throwing skittle and an instruction leaflet.

We have a really uneven lawn which has made other little games we’ve had in the past, rather tricky to play at times.  The Mölkky Original pins have a 5 cms diameter, making them very stable even on uneven surfaces like our garden!  The numbers appear to have been stamped on to the surface of each pin and I can’t tell if the wood has been treated in any way so I wouldn’t recommend leaving this game outdoors in all weathers.  But on a dry day, its a great game for the whole family to enjoy.

The pins are set up in the formation shown in the photograph above.  You’ll need to mark a throwing line 3-4 metres away from this pin formation.  We decided on a specific point on our lawn and decided that my son would throw first (as always!!).

There is an app you can download on either Google Play or App Store to keep track of scores.  But I wanted to throw in a bit of maths to our game playing, so I nominated my son to add up and keep track of our scores as we played Mölkky Original from Tactic Games.

You throw the Mölkky throwing skittle underarm and you add up the numbers of each fallen pins after each round.  Pins are not counted as fallen if they are leaning on another pin or on the Mölkky throwing little. We changed the rules slightly and instead of counting the number of fallen pins we counted the number on the pins instead to test my son’s maths ability.  School at home, needs must! But it also gives us a couple of gameplay variations.

Once you’ve made a note of the score, the fallen pins are placed upright where they fell and play continues. After a throw, fallen pins are put upright at the place where they fell.

If you’re counting the number of pins knocked over, then the winner is the first player to reach exactly 50 points. As we’ve been counting the actual number on the pins, we’ve named the winner the person with the most points after a certain number of throws.

We’ve enjoyed playing Mölkky Original from Tactic Games and it’s a game that will come in very useful in the months ahead I’m sure.  When gameplay has finished the pins all fit back nicely in the box which has a carry handle too. So you could also take this game with you on a day out or on holiday, as and when that’s possible again.

You can purchase Mölkky Original from Tactic Games from various stockists including Phillips Toys.
