Benefits of live-in care – AD paid post

disclosure:  I have been compensated for hosting this post

Sometimes our elderly relatives need care from others other than ourselves. Live-in care is one of the most popular types of care alongside care homes and it’s easy to see why. Sometimes the care we give our elderly relatives isn’t enough or we don’t have time to care for them alongside our day to day challenges and childcare.

We’re going to show you some of the benefits of live-in care and why you should consider it for your elderly relatives to take the weight off yourself and them.

Benefits of live-in care

What is live-in care?

First of all, you may not know what live-in care is. It’s a form of care that takes place from the home of the elderly client. They are assigned a carer that looks after them from their home. This gives them some of their own home comforts and allows them privacy and keep the independence that they may be used to. These are just some of the benefits of live-in care.

What are the benefits of live-in care?

There are a lot of benefits that come from live-in care. We chatted to live-in care experts Country Cousins and they spoke to us about some of the top benefits of live-in care from their perspective:

“Live-in care allows you to live amongst your own environment and keep your own privacy from the comfort of your home. You can stick to your own routine which you often lose when in a care home, so you can do what you want when you want. Your family and friends can come and go, visiting when they like.

Care is also tailor-made dependent on the persons needs. So your carer can do as much or as little as you like. For example, if you enjoy cooking you can continue to cook yourself and your carer can do simple household tasks. You can also keep pets if you like! Your carer is your friend and they can offer you emotional support and someone to talk to where needed.”

How much does live-in care cost?

Live-in care is cost-effective and prices can start at around £798 a week which converts to around £3200 a month. This is in comparison to care homes which cost on average £846 a week. You get the same level of care for your relative as you would in a care home, except they are able to maintain their independence and privacy.

There is some government support available if needed that can help to pay for the costs of live-in care and other forms of care. A means test will take place to work out whether you are eligible for help with paying for care. Age UK has written as useful guide to help you understand how much you may be entitled to.

Hopefully, this guide has shown you the benefits of live-in care to allow your elderly relative to keep their independence and have the privacy they want whilst receiving the care that they need.
