Project 365 2017 Week 19 Day 127 – 133
Sunday 7th May – Day 127
I was awake bright and early thanks to the dawn chorus, who knew birds could be so loud! But otherwise all was good, and Monkey slept in til 7.30am. The sun had decided to come out and we were in for a glorious day. Monkey had some time with the friends he’d made and then we packed up our belonging, squeezed them in the car and said our goodbyes. We’d both really enjoyed our glamping experience.
We had half price entry into Drayton Manor Park, so made use of those and went on some of our favourite rides before heading home so that Monkey could see his Dad for a bit.
I’m really hoping that my camera isn’t developing a fault. It’s really struggled to focus at times this weekend, on both auto and shutter priority 🙁
Monday 8th May – Day 128
I was totally shattered today and am sure Monkey must have been too. He seemed to be in a good mood after school though which was good, although we had the weekly ‘I don’t want to go to Beavers’ routine. He loves it when he’s there though and came out beaming as he’d got 2 new badges. He’s been going for just over a year now and was rather chuffed with his 1 year badge.
Tuesday 9th May – Day 129
I take a lot of photos, and on days out I take even more than normal. It took over 4 hours to put together my Donington post today so I didn’t get a lot else done before it was time to pick Monkey up from school.
When I picked Monkey up from school I suggested that we made a start on his school project. He’s learning about the rainforest and he needs to make his own version using a shoebox to hand in, in a couple of weeks. We have no free weekends at the moment, so I really wanted to get it done and out the way. He doesn’t normally like this sort of homework, but this time he was straight on it. He loves the Rio series of films, so this was a homework he seems to really enjoy.
At bedtime we were messing around and this apparently is Monkey’s best face – charming.
Wednesday 10th May – Day 130
My airing cupboard was in a total mess, it was time to sort it out and get rid of some bedding, towels and a really old duvet. Everything now in order. I popped round to see my friend L for a cuppa and a catch up before going back to domestic chores at home.
Monkey cracked on and completed his project work, now to keep it somewhere safe until it has to go into school in a couple of weeks time.
In other news, our caterpillars seem to have had a massive growth spurt – they are huge.
Thursday 11th May – Day 131
Guess who forgot to set her alarm last night! Thankfully I woke up just before 7.30am or we really would have been in serious trouble. It’s amazing how quickly Monkey can get dressed when we are really up against it.
One of our caterpillars had snuck up to the top of the jar last night and this morning he’s looking very much as if he’s staying put. Is he about to turn? This is the part of the life cycle we missed last year as it all happened when we were on holiday. Exciting times, although Monkey is gutted as he wanted to surprise Gramps in a couple of weeks.
Monkey’s friend J came over for a play date after school. The boys had a great time.
Friday 12th May – Day 132
The play date went well yesterday and in the 5 hours between the boys having their dinner and me going to bed, our first caterpillar had changed into a chrysalis! This morning it looks like number 2 and 3 might be heading the same way anytime soon. Chrysalis number 2 had to be saved as it fell from the lid this evening.
I headed off to college for an admin session and to sort out where we’ll be meeting up in the weeks ahead for our location shoots. I’m pretty sure I’ve got an issue with my camera and the focusing so I’m going to have to look into that over the weekend, not what I need right now.
Spotted some poppies growing across the road from our house and snapped this on my phone when I got home today.
Saturday 13th May – Day 133
We were invited to Compton Verney this morning and took my friend L and her son C with us. I haven’t been since Monkey was very small in March 2011, so was interested to see how it’s changed. The weather behaved and we had a full on day of fun. We all got to try our hand at Poly Printing to start the day off and then got to explore the various art galleries and grounds. Both boys had a ball and L and I got plenty of time to admire the grounds and have a chat. The adventure playground was pretty much our last stop of a full day out and Monkey got straight on the equipment, climbing and everything!! Where has my timid little non adventurer gone? It’s lovely to watch the transformation.
Home for a little play time with C before Monkey crashed on the sofa watching Thunderbirds. A perfect day. We now have another 2 caterpillars hanging around, waiting to change.

Over 40 and a Mum to One
A Mum with a 13 year old son, enjoying life and having fun as my son travels through school life. We love to get outdoors whenever possible and make the most of the world around us. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.
Love that photo of Monkey on the adventure playground. My parents go to Compton Verney a lot, but I’ve never been.
Sorry to hear about your camera playing up, that must be very frustrating.
How exciting to see the caterpillars turn into chrysalises (if that’s the right word!).
We now have all 5 turned to chrysalis so the wait has truly begun. Compton Verney was lovely
Ahh! I’m glad you had a great time glamping.
Well done to Monkey for getting the badges. He looks so pleased. The rain forest looks fab too!
It looks and sounds like you had a great week x
We did have some fun
We’ve not been to Compton Verney for a couple of years now. Really should go back because last time N wasn’t big enough to go on most of the playground equipment.
Hope there’s nothing drastic wrong with your camera. I’ve just got mine fixed through Jessops.
Think I’ll need to see Jessops after half term if I can limp on until after my parents have gone back to Spain. Hoped it was a lens, but it’s not 🙁
The glamping looks like great fun and Monkey’s school project is amazing! Great effort there. #365
Thank you
How annoying about your camera, hope it is sortable.
Great to see Monkey coming along in so many situations.
Smart thinking on pre planning the homework and he has made a great job of it.
I think it’s going to be a repair job.
well doen to the boy on his beaver badges, we used to love having the caterpillars, more me than the boys though tbh lol
Thanks, yes I think I’m as excited as monkey about them.
It was so lovely to see you the other week and catch up properly. I hope your camera is ok. I do like the poppy picture.
It was really nice to have a proper catch up, hope you are ok. Think the camera will need to be sent away, but will have to make do for the next few weeks if I can.
Hope you get your camera sorted, frustrating. I can’t get over how tall Monkey is looking! Sounds like a busy week, but lots of fun 🙂
I love Monkey’s project, it is awesome. you are good to get yours done so in advance, we are always so last minute in this house! and also well done Monkey for getting your badges from Beavers.
Those caterpillers are doing so well too – they have got so big x
