Project 365 2017 Week 40 Day 274 – 280

Sunday 1st October – Day 274

Project 365 2017 Week 40

We had a full day in London starting with an early train from the second local station to us, with a new line into London.  We were spending the day at the Tower of London on a review trip and we wanted to get there early so we didn’t have to queue to see the Crown Jewels.  In fact we were lucky, and got in to see them a few times throughout the day as Monkey was fascinated by them, and by the Tower in general.  It was another great trip.

We all love Tower Bridge and using a 2 for 1 offer we had with our train tickets, we decided to try the Tower of London Experience before we headed home.  It was great, and I was so proud of Monkey as he walked along both of the high walkways and over the glass blocks as you can see in my post from earlier in the week.

It was late by the time we got home and we were greeted by a limping Brewster.  He didn’t seem to be in real pain, there was no obvious injury, so I kept him on the bed with me overnight to keep an eye on him.

Monday 2nd October – Day 275

Project 365 2017 Week 40

It was clearly going to be one of those days.  Brewster was still limping and I woke up to the news that Monarch Airlines had gone bust and our flights to Portugal next May were no longer going ahead.

I rang the vets to get Brewster looked at as soon as I’d dropped Monkey at school.  After a thorough examination, the vet discovered a cut on one of his paw pads.  Thankfully nothing worse.  So we were sent home with cream and antibiotics and instructions to keep him in for a few days to let the pad scab over nicely.  Not a happy cat.

I then spent an hour on hold with my credit card company to put a claim in for the cost of our flights.  Finally got through and a dispute form is now in the post.  Can’t afford to book new flights without the refund, so I’m hoping the act promptly.  Time will tell.

We did end the day on a better note as Monkey picked up his Lodge Leader badge at Beavers – very happy boy.

Tuesday 3rd October – Day 276

Project 365 2017 Week 40

It’s fair to say that Brewster is not enjoying being confined to barracks.  As I tried to work, he spent most of the day looking longingly at the garden or biting my feet in annoyance.

I was called in after school to see Monkey’s teacher about his reading.  I’d made a note in his reading diary about my concerns that he was coming home with Biff Chip and Kipper books he’d read in February, when last term he was reading basic chapter books.  This had now been rectified and she told me that he’s getting reading support every day now with a TA and once a week with her (although that’s still to happen).  Hopefully it will all help him but he’s not impressed with the idea at all.

Wednesday 4th October – Day 277

Project 365 2017 Week 40

I’d postponed a meet up with a friend earlier in the week as I wasn’t sure how Brewster was going to be, but he’s definitely on the mend and able to put weight on his leg today, phew!

Daddy P had arranged for the electrician to come and do a number of jobs at the house, he just hadn’t told me.  So I came back from shopping with the kitchen a no go area.  I wasn’t bless pleased, although I do now have a porch light that I’ve been asking for, for 9 years.

Lunch when I finally reclaimed the kitchen was a lush Keralan Chicken Soup I’d picked up in Sainsburys.  It was lovely.

Thursday 5th October – Day 278

Project 365 2017 Week 40

I dropped Monkey off at school and headed out for my photography class.  We looked over the spot metering and exposure compensation homework we’d all done and then looked at Histograms and understanding Brightness Ranges.  This week’s homework involves looking at the brightness range of different points in one shot, and recording them before taking the main shot.  While the sun was actually out, I got my work done as I’ve got a busy few days ahead.

Picked Monkey up from school, no spelling test (second time this term that they’ve not actually had it – grr), no homework – yippee, and he’d ‘forgotten’ to change his reading book.

Friday 6th October – Day 279

Project 365 2017 Week 40

Inset day and the sun came out to play.  I’d asked Monkey what he wanted to do for the day, two things, go to Stowe and go swimming.  There was only one hour in the afternoon when the pool was open for general use, so we headed over to Stowe in the morning.  It’s one of our happy places and it looked glorious in the sunshine.  With a bag full of conkers we headed around the grounds exploring different parts and firm favourites.  We got to see a number of dragonflies mating too.

After lunch we headed home for a bit before heading to the pool with our swimming gear.  What a difference school swimming lessons have made, it was lovely to watch Monkey in the big pool, no fear, no swimming aids, just going for it, front and back.  Admittedly, his stroke is different, but he had so much fun.

Saturday 7th October – Day 280

Project 365 2017 Week 40

We’ve spent the day with one of my NCT group and her two boys.  There was much digging in the garden before lunch and then after some refuelling we headed out for a walk to the river Evenlode in our wellies.  This photo might have been taken before we discovered that Monkey’s wellies aren’t actually waterproof at all, and before the mud sliding activities began.  Three happy, wet and muddy boys headed back to two cars.  Monkey had had a lovely time catching up with friends he doesn’t see very often and he was bothered in the slightest about driving home in his pants!

  1. Your trip to the Tower of London sounds amazing. Love that photo of Monkey at Stowe. Glad he’s making such good progress with his swimming. Glad Brewster is getting better too.

  2. Firstly congratulations on the porch light! Hehe almost a decade wait. Was it worth it? I hope it is spectacular. Your photos are looking wonderful, especially Monkey’s portraits. He is looking so grown up! #365

  3. Glad you finally have your porch light even if it did cause some disruption. We have similar problems with spelling tests not happening on time. Doesn’t make it easy to build in the support for them.

  4. A few nice days out have been had. Glad he chose to go swimming so you could see his progress and his new found confidence.
Least the day was not wasted totally with you now having a porch lite.

  5. I have never been to the Tower of London…keep meaning to go! Aww poor Brewster, can imagine him hating being kept in so much! Sounds like a good day out with friends.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
