Project 365 2017 Week 46 Day 316 – 322

Sunday 12th November – Day 316

Project 365 2017 Week 46

Dad’s 75th Birthday, after a comedy of errors we finally got to wish him happy birthday via mobile phone as he enjoyed a day out with Mum in Ronda.  The sunshine was definitely staying in Spain with them.

Monkey could have joined the Remembrance Day Parade with Beavers but he didn’t want to go, so we watched the parade in London on TV instead and had a home day, playing games and generally chilling out.

Monday 13th November – Day 317

Project 365 2017 Week 46

Odd socks for school all week for Anti Bullying Awareness Week and a double helping of swimming.

We started the day with a very unusual site, Monkey reading by himself, voluntarily.  He’s found a school reading book that he’s actually enjoying and I almost don’t want him to finish reading it.  It’s also the longest book he’s read.

His school swimming lesson went well and we were both back in the pool after school (thankfully he has two costumes) for a swimming session with Beavers.  I was helping out, which was a double-edged sword.  I could never of done that a few years ago, but I didn’t feel confident enough to go right to the deep end with the kids.  Another helper had to do that part.  One day maybe, but not just yet.  I felt a bit stupid at the time, but I had a talk to myself afterwards to remind myself how far I’ve come.  My son on the other hand swam a length of the pool with one of the group leaders.  Beyond proud.

Tuesday 14th November – Day 318

Project 365 2017 Week 46

A full on blog writing day, I’m still playing catch up and I really want to be ahead of the game before Monkey’s birthday next month, so I can just concentrate on that and enjoy it.  Fingers crossed.

A bacon toasted sandwich for lunch fuelled me through the day.

Wednesday 15th November – Day 319

Project 365 2017 Week 46

I dropped Monkey at school and met up with my friend L for the day.  Blogging and an absent husband can leave me feeling very isolated at times.  I can go almost all week without talking to anyone other than Monkey and sometimes that’s just too much.  There are some things going on behind the scenes and I was in need of some time out, and a day with a good friend was much appreciated.  We shopped, ate and chatted and relaxed.  Found this shop display as we wandered around and it just seemed very apt.  Too much time spent in the fast lane, chasing my tail.

When I picked Monkey up from school, his school photos had come back.  Oh my word, he looks so grown up.

Thursday 16th November – Day 320

Project 365 2017 Week 46

I headed off to college this morning, we’ve been studying street photography and today we were looking at Martin Parr, ahead of our homework assignment.  It’s fair to say his style of photography doesn’t sit well with me and I’ll be glad when we move on to the next topic.

When I got home I looked out into the garden on what had become a very dull day, and spotted this beam of yellow.  Who would have thought you could get sunflowers blooming in November!

You may recall that we were one of thousands of families who had booked flights with Monarch Airlines before they went bust.  I’d put a claim in with my credit card company early last month and had still heard nothing.  So I called to chase them up, after being no hold for a while, I was told I’d been refunded last Thursday.  Yippee! Shame they couldn’t actually have written to tell me that.  Anyway, I was straight on the case and have booked new flights with Jet2 – it’s over £125 more expensive than our original flights but I’m consoling myself with the fact we did get the refund, we can fly when we want and the flight times are a bit better.

When Monkey came home from school and saw the printed email confirmation he burst into tears.  Happy tears.  Bless him.

He’s a little sod for not talking to Granny and Gramps when we Skype and then telling me how much he misses them as soon as I’ve hung up the video call.  Every week he does this.  Today, after dinner he asked if he could email Granny from my phone.  Writing!!  Yes my son.  OK he got a lot of help with the auto suggestions but I don’t care, he asked to write, and to his Granny.

Friday 17th November – Day 321

Project 365 2017 Week 46

Children in Need day and I’d got out the fabric pens to sort a spotty top out for Monkey to wear to school.  I spent the day working and then we went into town after school.  We’d arranged for some of Monkey’s steam train prints to be framed and that was ready to collect.  I’d also had a call to let me know my new glasses from Vision Express were ready to pick up from my local store.  So pleased with them, full review coming soon.

Saturday 18th November – Day 322

Project 365 2017 Week 46

We had a quiet morning trying out a pottery wheel set we’d been sent for review.  It’s a hit.  Then it was time to catch up with old friends.

We have an NCT Secret Santa day every year instead of buying all the kid’s birthday presents, as most of the first generation were born around Christmas anyway.  We’re up to 10 kids now, and with busy after school activities we opted for a Saturday meet up – and today was the only one before Christmas we could all make.  Mad but true!  It was lovely to catch up with everyone and they all seemed to love their presents.  Thunderbird 2 and 4 went down rather well here.

  1. It sounds like a busy week! Well done to you both for your progress in swimming. I’m amazed that you have a sunflower in November. It’s stunning.
I know what you mean about feeling isolated – and I have three kids! My husband works late quite a bit, but is here most evenings. I still get lonely in the day though. Often the only adult I speak to who isn’t related to me is a mum from ballet!

  2. I love that first photo of Monkey, it put a huge smile on my face when I opened the post! Well done both of you on the swimming, that is really commendable. Ooo I hope there is another book in the series that Monkey likes for when that one is finished. #365

  3. I didn’t expect to see a sunflower at this time of the year, mind you i haven’t really been paying much attention to the gardens, i’ve been distracted by the trees changing colours. Pleased you got your refund from Tesco for your Monarch flights and managed to get new ones

  4. The secret santa’s a good idea. We always used to do that for birthdays with our group. Good news on the flights, bet that’s a relief.

  5. I know what you mean about working from home and not seeing people. It’s not too bad at the moment as we walk home from school with other people, but next year when he’s at secondary I am going to have to make some changes I think.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
