Statfold Barn Railway

Project 365 2021 Week 26

Project 365 2021 Week 26 Day 178 – 184 The week where summer disappeared, Wimbledon started and I got to have a curry night with my NCT group for the first time in months.

Sunday 27th June – Day 178

Statfold Barn Railway

We headed north for some steam adventures at Statfold at their Giant Miniature Weekend. It’s somewhere we’ve not been before and it was nice to have a day that felt almost normal.  Yes we still had to wear face masks and there weren’t large crowds but it’s the sort of event that we would have gone to eighteen months ago, the sort of thing that my son has really missed.  There were lots of locos on display, free steam loco and tram rides and lots of miniature steam vehicles to admire.  The only thing missing was the sunshine!

As we weren’t far from my bestie we popped in for a cuppa and a catch up in her garden before heading home.

Monday 28th June – Day 179

Prawn sandwich

I got a call from school just before I left for work, my son had left his swimming bag at home.  It’s quicker to walk to school than drive, so I ran there and back before driving to work.

After work I met up with a friend for lunch and a catch-up, we’ve not seen each other this year so it was lovely to see her.

My son has been moved up to the top group in swimming and he delighted in telling me that he’d had to jump in the deep end multiple times.  Anyone who knows me and my own swimming journey will appreciate just how proud I am of him and his achievement.  I had tried to get him to take proper swimming lessons years ago but had to admit defeat in Grade Two, but he’s enjoyed swimming with school.  Such a shame he only has two more lessons left.

Andy Murray reminded me why I always feel stressed watching him play tennis, but he got there in the end!

I had a phone call at work from the Endocrine clinic to book me in for an appointment.  They have arranged a video appointment in September.  I’m sceptical about how useful that will be.

Tuesday 29th June – Day 180

Great Tit

Another grey day, where has summer gone?

Finally got my son to walk all the way to school without me walking any of it with him.  He does meet his best friend on the way, but he’s been a bit resistant to not having me along, apparently, he loves our chats.  As much as that is lovely, I know he needs to take this next step.  So this morning I agreed to stand outside our house and wave him off.  He came back three times for a hug and a kiss but he went off in the end.

After work, I did a bit of shopping and enjoyed watching the bird action in the garden whilst I had a cuppa and some lunch.  We have so many Great and Blue Tit families in the trees at the moment, and they take turns coming into the garden to feed.

Having had the call and email from the Endocrine team, today I’ve had another email inviting me to an appointment at the hospital instead – seems far more sensible to me, so happy with that, even if I do have to wait until September for it.

Wednesday 30th June – Day 181

Juvenile Robin

Another garden bird photo – oops!  I had a lot of ‘blogmin’ to catch up on today, but it was hard to concentrate on it with all the action in the garden.  I spotted this little bird sitting on the fence.  I thought at first it was a baby blackbird, but then it dawned on me that it’s a juvenile Robin.  Love seeing all these baby birds stretching their wings.

Thursday 1st July – Day 182

flowers

My NCT group came round for a curry night.  This event has been a monthly occurrence for years and then Coronavirus hit.  It was so lovely to actually catch up in person rather than over a zoom call. Hopefully we can get some of the kids together over the summer holidays.

Friday 2nd July – Day 183

Project 365 2021 Week 26

I’d made my son pack up all of his Lego before the girls came round last night.  It was great to see the carpet for a change.  But this morning before I’d even got downstairs, he was busy relaying his track.  My living room has been invaded once more.

Saturday 3rd July – Day 184

Project 365 2021 Week 26

Such an attractive look this morning as I was getting my hair done.  I’ve known my hairdresser for years and she’s been one of the many people who have been trying to get married since last year.  She’s now on her third date and gets married in a couple of weeks.  It broke my heart a bit listening to everything she’s had to deal with to try to have her ‘special day’.  It’s stressful enough organising a wedding in a normal world.

This afternoon my son and I are off to meet two little furballs who will be coming to live with us at the end of July.  Yes, I must be mad, yes, Brewster is going to not be impressed but hopefully, it will all work out ok in the end.  Watch this space.

  1. Sounds like you’ve been busy. I feel like we’re really behind everybody else as many of the clubs and groups have yet to be reinstated. I love that you’re still in touch with your NCT group. Our baby group stayed in touch until the kids started school, but then as they all went to different schools it tapered off after that 🙂

    1. It’s been hard to keep the kids together as they have all been at different schools and two families live in different towns now but we always had a monthly mum’s get together until covid hit.

  2. It sounds like a great day out at Statfold. Plenty to do and see.
Well done your son with the swimming.
How lovely to catch up with your NCT group over a curry.
Aww! Your poor hairdresser. I hope she gets her wedding soon x

  3. Going to an event is amazing, especially to one that features steam trains. I went to an event too, in May, and it was so special after a long time of restrictions. The mask wearing made no difference for us. From my point of view, we can still keep them long-term.
I am looking forward to read about the new furballs. :))

  4. Brewster is going to get a shock seeing 2 kittens invading his space! Well done to your son on the swimming. Ours haven’t started back yet – mainly because to social distance in the changing rooms would be impossible, they’re the last school of the day, so worry about the spread of virus, and then because they’d have to bus them there, to keep them in bubbles only 1 class would be able to go at once, so the cost would go up way to much. It’s a shame – there are 2 year groups who’ve done zero to very little swimming with school, and others who’ve missed a lot. N hasn’t swum since the weekend before lockdown 1!

  5. So lovely to enjoy days out that feel almost normal again. Well done to your son on getting moved into the top group at swimming. Beautiful photo of the juvenile robin. We’ve had a couple in our garden and I love seeing them. We’re the same with not getting to see the carpet for very long before it’s covered in toys again! Hope all goes well for your hairdresser with her wedding – it must be so hard having to keep changing plans. #project365

  6. My husband’s nephew got married a couple of weeks ago after postponing a couple of times and having a fake wedding on their driveway earlier in the year. Hope your hairdresser gets her special day at last. #project365

  7. My neighbour is in the same predicament as your hairdresser and they are on their 4th date now. Fingers crossed for all involved. Love you bird photo’s

  8. Yay for curry nights, so nice to be able to see people again zoom just isn’t the same. My living room is also filled with lego as I write this. I really need to get my hair done again but I am not booked until the end of August which in hindsight maybe a mistake since the grey is already starting to show badly…

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
