Project 365 2021 Week 34 Day 234 – 240 What should have been a week of adventures and catching up with friends turned into the week I broke my toe.
Sunday 22nd August – Day 234
We spent the day enjoying the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway. We arrived in time to catch the first steam loco of the day and made the most of our day rover ticket. We were also lucky enough to have been in the right place at the right time and got to enjoy a guided tour of the diesel shed with one of the volunteers.
The kittens did really well too, as this was the longest they’ve been left alone since they moved in.
Monday 23rd August – Day 235
My niece and great-niece came over to meet Pippi and Fudge who are apparently a little calmer than their kitten Milo. All was going well until I walked into one of our kitchen chairs, I knew instantly that I’d done more than just stubbing my toe. By the time they left, I just knew that I’d ruined our plans for the rest of the week. Made it to the age of 53 before breaking a bone!
I rang Twycross Zoo and explained the situation, and they’ve agreed I can transfer tomorrow’s tickets to later next month and rang my bestie to break the news to her as she was meant to be meeting us there. Then contacted my friend S to cancel our meet up in Broadway on Thursday. Final call to the OH with an SOS as the kittens were due to go to the vet this afternoon for their second vaccinations.
Toe strapped, paracetamol taken and footrest liberated from a pile of Lego.
Tuesday 24th August – Day 236
Could do with a decent pedicure couldn’t I? Bruising is coming out, thankfully it doesn’t seem too painful at the moment but I’m keeping it elevated whenever possible and won’t be going on any adventures now.
Lots of kitten and cat cuddles instead and a son watching too much TV. It is what it is, I’m just thankful that I was at home when I did it and that it wasn’t my big toe. Still gutted about the timing though.
Wednesday 25th August – Day 237
We should have been meeting up with Suzanne from Chickenruby in Broadway tomorrow but as I can’t really drive thanks to my toe, she offered to drive over to see us today instead. It’s hard to believe that we’ve not seen her for a year. We sat in the garden chatting and she even brought cakes with her which went down well.
My Toe and foot generally are feeling more comfortable when I’m wearing my Birkenstocks so they will be my footwear of choice for a while I think.
My son was pleased when an eBay purchase of some brick base plates arrived as a surprise. I’d bought him one years ago that he loves as it’s a long rectangle and idea for building builds. Lego doesn’t do anything in the same size and Wilko appear to have stopped selling them too. So when I spotted two brand new ones on eBay I snapped them up for him.
Thursday 26th August – Day 238
Another lazy day in our household. Pippi decided that it was her time to sit with Brewster which is as exciting as it’s getting here today. Pippi and Fudge are 14 weeks old today.
I managed to bash the side of my foot this morning – ouch! So wearing Birks as slippers now to try to protect my toe from me!
My son seems quite happy playing with his Lego and coming up with build ideas.
Friday 27th August – Day 239
The post is a bit cat/kitten heavy but they’ve been our entertainment for the majority of the week. Fudge is either very brave or very stupid – I’m still not sure which, I am, however, amazed that Brewster lets him get this close.
I’m going a little bit stir crazy but conscious of not totally knackering my foot up too. I also feel guilty that my son really hasn’t had the ‘holiday’ he’d been promised in any way, shape or form and that this time next week he will be in school.
We’ve had some worrying news about my Uncle’s health after some tests. He’s now awaiting a scan and a new consultant appointment. It’s not sounding great, but we will see what comes next.
Saturday 28th August – Day 240
As well as our bumper (not) crop of tomatoes which are still very green, we have apples. I use the plural very loosely as we have two of them this year!!! Better than none I guess.
We’ve been mean parents today and made my son go out to work with his Dad for a couple of hours, to get him out of the house for a bit. It also gives me and the kittens some much-needed peace.
Hard to believe it’s September next week, work for me, although I’ve already said that me and stairs are not going to be a recipe for success for a few weeks, and Secondary School for my son.
Oh no sorry to hear about the toe which led to you cancelling plans!
The kittens are so adorable.
Sorry to hear you have had worrying news about your uncle.
Thanks
Oh, poor you! That bruise looks menacing. Hope your broken toe is on the mend. Your kittens look adorable, glad they are settling in nicely. Brewster seems to have accepted his fate as a wise older cat among the silly little ones.
I’ve seen on FB that Suzanne was able to visit you, that’s lovely. Sorry to hear you had to change a lot of plans for the week. Our apple trees are on a break this year. Only one tree has some apples, the other big one doesn’t have a single apple, sadly.
It was just my luck!
Lovely to visit you, hard to believe it has been a year since I sat in your garden, get that bloody toe sorted by half term. Sorry to hear about your Uncles test results, fingers crossed
It’s better than when I saw you, but still not worn an actual shoe yet
Ouch that bruising came out so much. Hope the pain’s eased a bit now. his summer’s whizzed by hasn’t it.
Yes it was quite large by the time it was in full colour
What a great day you had enjoying the railway.
Ouchie! I hope your toe is feeling a bit better now. Broken toes are the worst, there’s not much you can do apart from strapping them up. You did well to get to your age an not breaking a bone until now. That is a cracking bruise. Eek!
How lovely to meet up with Suzanne.
The kittens are growing fast and it’s so good to see that Brewster is accepting of them. That photo of one sitting on top of him did make me chuckle.
I hope your uncle is OK. x
It was lovely to see a friendly face
Great bruise! Looks like mine from when I broke a bone in my foot and had a full cast to my knee (bruise was still there 6 weeks later!) I’m off to look up that railway as I haven’t heard of it before… #project365
Oh wow that doesn’t sound much fun, this is bad enough
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve broken your toe. It does look very sore. Hope it heals as quickly as possible. I’m glad you got to have a nice day out on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway before breaking your toe and that your tickets for Twycross Zoo could be transferred. Lovely that you were able to catch up with Suzanne still. Love the photos of the kittens and Brewster – they look like they’re all getting along well. #project365
Thanks – slow progress
So sorry to hear about your toe. What rotten timing, I hope it is starting to feel better now , not sure how long those sorts of things take to heal. Good that the tickets for the zoo can be transferred to another day and that you still managed to catch up with Suzanne. I hope the return to work and school is smooth for you all
Thanks – I’m told 4-6 weeks, it definitely improved but still hurts so having to be patient.
I totally missed that you broke your toe! I’m so sorry that it messed up the holiday plans that you had. Loving the kitten spam and the blogger meet you had this week #365
Thanks
