Project 365 2022 Week 37 Day 254 -260 The week that saw the Queen leave Balmoral for the last time, and lie in rest in Edinburgh and Buckingham Palace before moving to Westminster Hall to lie in state

Sunday 11th September – Day 254

Project 365 2022 Week 37

The Queen’s coffin left Balmoral Castle and travelled by road to Holyrood House in Edinburgh with Princess Anne following behind. The convoy took over 6 hours and was so moving to watch.

We also spent time in the garden with our own queen watching on as we planted up a lot of plants my SIL had given us from her own garden.  Hopefully, we won’t kill too many of them!

Monday 12th September – Day 255

Project 365 2022 Week 37

The Queen’s coffin was moved from Holyrood House to St Giles Cathedral in the centre of Edinburgh with the royal siblings following on foot behind. The Queen will lay at rest for 24 hours before being flown to London tomorrow.  The four siblings stood in vigil around the coffin, how they are managing to function in the constant public glare amazes me.

My son sorted through the contents of our Trofast storage system over the summer holidays.  Some things are to be kept but a lot is to be sold or given away now.  Today was the day to clean it up and list it for sale.  I won’t be reclaiming the space in my living room for long though.  We’re buying a Billy bookcase at the weekend to replace it so my son can store ‘some’ of his Lego collection in one place rather than having it all over the carpet.  It’s a step in the right direction at least.

Tuesday 13th September – Day 256

Project 365 2022 Week 37

I dropped my car in for its annual service before work and walked home again.  Starting to feel a little bit autumnal, isn’t it? It hardly had anything done as it’s only done 3,000 miles in the last year, which is nothing compared to what I used to do in my old car pre-Covid.  But these days I find driving really tiring and just avoid the distances I used to travel.

We watched the Queen’s coffin leaving Edinburgh and arriving at RAF Northolt.  It was then driven into central London to stay at rest overnight in Buckingham Palace.

Wednesday 14th September – Day 257

Project 365 2022 Week 37

On my first day off to myself since the school broke up in July, the sun was shining and I headed over to Stowe for a long walk.  I always try to arrive as it’s opening and this morning I’d completed half of my walk before seeing anyone other than staff and volunteers gardening.  It was so tranquil and just what I needed.  I never tire of the views.

I had contemplated going down to London to see the floral tributes but it was clear that London was going to be rammed today so I’m glad I went to Stowe instead.

In the afternoon the Queen’s coffin was moved by gun carriage from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall with members of the royal family walking behind and others waiting inside the Hall.  It’s hard to believe that she’s now lying in state in the room my son and I visited last month.

Thursday 15th September – Day 258

Project 365 2022 Week 37

Brewster won’t win any prizes for his chosen spot for a game of hiding and seek, will he?

Back to school reality hit home with the arrival of Maths homework.  Exactly the same format as last year, but with a new teacher.  Let’s see if this teacher ever actually marks the work.  I’m not holding out much hope if last year is anything to go by, but time will tell.

Friday 16th September – Day 259

Project 365 2022 Week 37

I needed to post a letter before work this morning and the blue sky did not mean that it was warm.  Quite the opposite, it was rather chilly.  Want to get back into my before-work walks next week and looks like I’m going to need to wear a jacket – roll on Spring!

In the evening the King and his siblings took part in the Vigil of the Princes around the Queen’s coffin with family members looking on and the general public continuing to walk past.

Saturday 17th September – Day 260

Project 365 2022 Week 37

Had a nice surprise arrive in the post today.  A couple of my photographs have been included in this newly published book. This afternoon we are off to Ikea to pick up the new Lego storage whenever the OH finishes work.  Hopefully, it won’t be rammed.

  1. It has been interesting seeing everything on the news about the Royal family.
We are just at the point where the living room has less of my girls things in, we’re not quite there yet but it’s starting to feel a little more grown up.
The views at Stowe are beautiful. It looks like a lovely place to take some time out.
It has got so chilly over the past week. At least the sun is still shining. x
