You may remember some months ago we took part in the Kids Grow Wild challenge, part of which was planting and growing sunflowers.
Well, our sunflowers have got taller and taller and finally we have our first flower – Daddy P won that part of our race. My son and I are neck and neck (they are nearly as tall as me at 5′ 6”) but we are still waiting for our sunflowers to burst into bloom!
Hopefully they will explode into bloom very soon, and be worth the wait.
We took part in that challenge too, but sadly due to the heat, my inability to remember to water them and then…umm…flooding last week ours did not do as well as yours! We will have a proper go again next year though, yours look fab 🙂
Thanks, I was beginning to think they’d never flower – watering, uum, wasn’t always so good at the either!
ooh fab well done, ours didn’t survive! I should have tried harder!
Love Sunflowers and really must get some seeds and grow some next year with my monkeys! Popping by form #countrykids.
They are wonderful aren’t they.
Our first has flowered this week, but has not grown as tall as yours at all, it is more like 3.5 feet.
I was beginning to think we’d got a beanstalk instead!
What a success! I’m glad to see how well they have done, I bet Monkey is thrilled with the results too. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
He’s not so thrilled that Daddy won the ‘flower in bloom first’ prize, but he could still win the ‘mine’s the tallest’ prize!
What a great thing to do! I miss growing veggies and flowers with my kids and this makes me want to grow sunflowers too in the future when we can!

It’s been great as we raced each other up the bamboo canes! Monkey’s was in the lead for ages
