Monkey isn’t great in big crowds and where there is a lot of noise so I’ve often just avoided situations that could cause issues. But I’ve noticed recently that he is slowly improving, he won’t go into complete meltdown. He might be unsure, but he’ll give things a chance. So I decided to bring up a discussion about Christmas Lights. Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Lights! Our town Christmas lights were due to be switched on last Thursday. We’ve not been to the switch on before and I thought this year, Monkey might just be ready for it.
I asked him if he’d like to go, and he said yes. The fun started at 4.30pm with the actual switch on planned for 7pm. I knew 4.30pm would be way too early for him, so we decided to have our dinner at pop into town for 6pm. We parked at Daddy P’s work and walked the rest of the way into town. I knew that way, if it was a disaster, we could be home quickly! It was a nice evening, not too cold and dry – bonus. At the time we arrived it wasn’t too busy, we walked around the fun fair and the stalls and listened to the Christmas Carols. Monkey was enjoying himself – phew!
This situation was helped along by the stalls giving away balloons and selling mince pies.
We found a bench and settled ourselves down, as the crowds grew. Monkey was really excited, he really grasped what was about to happen this year. It was a joy to watch his little face.
Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Lights, how we enjoyed seeing you shine in the night sky. What a moment of magic when Monkey counted down from 10 to 1 and saw all the lights come on. Magical, truly magical. It’s so wonderful to experience something through the eyes of a child. He was in awe as the lights came on, one by one down our main street. An evening I won’t forget, I hope he won’t either.

Over 40 and a Mum to One
A Mum with a 13 year old son, enjoying life and having fun as my son travels through school life. We love to get outdoors whenever possible and make the most of the world around us. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.
Sounds like you had a lovely time, and I’m glad Monkey managed with the crowds 🙂
It was a great night – so glad I decided to take him.
Aww that’s such a lovely evening. You make me want to go and enjoy the festivities at a Xmas market now 🙂
It was wonderful, it went much better than I’d expected and he enjoyed it so much.
How great to be able to join in with the town’s festivities this year! I can see from the photos that Monkey enjoyed himself immensley – what a great start to the festive season. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
It was a wonderful moment for us 🙂
Ah, how wonderful. What a special evening for you and Monkey
It was lovely, a moment to put the camera away and just have a special moment with my boy.
Sounds magical – I agree with you that sometimes the camera needs to be put down so you can truly appreciate the moment 🙂
It was lovely, a truly magical moment
I’m sure it was really magical. Glad to hear he liked them so much! Happy holidays to you!
Thank you, he’s still talking about it, which is lovely. Hope yuo guys are doing well x
What a lovely evening – you can see from his smile in the second photo how much he enjoyed it. A real magical moment 🙂
I know – he did look so in awe that evening
Brilliant, so glad he enjoyed himself. I missed our lights switch on this year as I was working, but 6y0 still went with Daddy
Really glad we went, his face was such a picture
That sounds so lovely. It’s great that he is getting better in big crowds – lots more fun to come!
I hope so, he takes quite a while to warm up to a new situation.
Glad it was such a good time. My wee man is still unsure of the big crowds at times and did not really enjoy himself so much when we went to our main city square just to see the lights. Mince pies definitely help a situation!
Mine takes about an hour to get used to a situation, so was fine by the time the fun started
How Fab! Looks like you and monkey had a fab time.
It was a lovely, special evening
Aww, he looks delighted. Bless him….my youngest is so excited this year! Fab isn’t it! #MagicMoments
