Welcome to London

Welcome to London – review and giveaway

I’ve been in love with our capital city since childhood.  Dad worked in the heart of the city at one time, and I loved exploring London on trips with my Auntie.  I’m not sure I could ever live there, but I never tire of visiting.  It’s a love I share with my 7 year old son, who always gets excited when we visit the big city.  Welcome to London is the kind of book that’s great as an introduction to our capital for younger children, but also as a discussion point for children my son’s age and beyond.

Welcome to London

The 60 page hardback picture book features 30 illustrations teaching children about the city and the people you might see on a visit.  We’ve been to London a number of times but none of us have seen a Pearly Queen yet – have you? We have however been to Trafalgar Square and Monkey knows all about Lord Nelson, he’s often wondered how many pigeons visit too.

Welcome to London

There are a couple of pages showing the different bridges across the river Thames which is quite fascinating as well as illustrations of the various trees you might find in Hyde Park. The pages featuring the art galleries have made me realise we haven’t taken Monkey to see any of the galleries in London yet. We’ve been past Harrods and Liberty on an open top bus tour, but I haven’t taken him inside.  Something else I need to remedy this summer I think.

A visit to Chinatown has been on our to do list for ages and Welcome to London has reminded us that we really do need to visit there too. Kew Gardens is somewhere we know and love and the book brought back memories for both of us as we looked through this book.

Welcome to London is a little different, I love the Marcos Farina illustrations and the fact that it doesn’t just show the best known sites of our city.  Priced at £10.99 I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below for your reference.
