Chalkola Chalk Markers

When you are left-handed you soon learn that writing and drawing in certain mediums can be a bit of a pain.  I constantly had fountain pen ink on my hand when I was at school.  If I did anything in chalk, I’d end up accidentally rubbing it out as I went along.  Having a left-handed son, I’ve seen him having the same sort of issues when we’ve tried different craft activities and he’s tried writing on a white board. Just before Christmas I was asked if we’d like to try out the range of Chalkola Chalk Markers, and I was really interested to see if they’d work for us.

Chalkola Chalk Markers

Chalkola provide a range of different chalk pens, and we received the Premium Wet Wipe Markers (pack of 10) and the Earthy Color set (set of 8) to try out over the festive period.  Those of you who followed the antics of our resident Elf, Berry will have seen that he left Monkey an elf portrait on our patio window before he headed off to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.

Berry the Elf left me some feedback on his thoughts of the Chalkola chalk pens as he got to try them out first. They can be used on any kind of non porous surface, such as glass, blackboards and whiteboards. They are also non-toxic and water based.

To get the pens flowing for the first time you just need to shake the pen (with the lid on) for approx 30 seconds, and then take the lid off and press the tip up and down a number of times until you see the nib change colour.

You are then ready to start using the chalk pen.  The pens flow easily and don’t run, and as Berry also turns out to be a leftie (who knew!) both he and I can confirm that they are easy for us to use. Our patio windows have proved to be very popular as an art gallery over the last few weeks and Monkey has really fallen for the Chalkola sets.

Berry’s elf portrait had been on the glass for a week and we decided to wipe him off when we were taking our decorations down, so Monkey could make use of the space.  A wet wipe or damp cloth saw the artwork gone very quickly.  We dried over the space with a paper towel and away Monkey went.

We found that if Monkey did get any chalk pen on his hands/fingers it washed off immediately with a bit of water or a wipe.  He has loved the freedom that a larger work space has given him, and I’m sure he’ll be using his step to reach our mirrors to get creative there too.  They really don’t cause us the same issues that stand chalks do, no mess or rubbed off images.

It wasn’t long before I was employed to draw a couple of Monkey’s favourite trains – Mallard and Bittern, for him.  It was lovely to work together and for me to follow his instructions.  When I’d completed the main engines to his requirements, he took over, adding carriages, steam and a crane.

We’ve not tried the pens on any other surface as for one, the windows have been such a big hit, and secondly, we don’t own a whiteboard or chalkboard.  But I can see them working just as well on these surfaces. Do note though, that these chalk pens should only be used on a porous surface, and it’s always worth trying a small test area first. Porous surfaces would absorb the liquid chalk ink so are best avoided.  They can be used with chalkboard paint but you may find that they don’t clean off effectively.

We’ve both been really impressed with this range, and I can see them going down well at school too.  I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate links for your reference, in case you fancy trying them for yourselves.  The Premium Wet Wipe Markers are currently reduced to £13.90, and the Earthy Colors set is £10.90.
