Today I’m sharing a book for the kids to enjoy. Crazy Pets and Secrets Revealed by Vix J Cooper is aimed at children aged 9-13 years of age and is a funny story where we are introduced to Hugo and his Nan.
Crazy Pets and Secrets Revealed focuses on the importance of family and especially of the special bond between a young boy and his slightly crazy Nan who is in her eighties. There are lots of laughs to be had as you turn the pages of this charming book. Nan is slightly eccentric and might be found with a saucepan on her head, thinking that her son, Hugo’s Dad, is actually Henry VIII. She loves to have her hair dyed a multitude of bright colours, much to her Hugo’s Mum’s despair.
Nan is getting older, and more confused, and Hugo tries to keep an eye on his beloved grandmother. There are poignant moments and some that will definitely resonate for anyone with family members of a similar age. There are passages that make you laugh and others that will pull on the heartstrings. Chaos ensues when Nan decides to home two goats, much to her daughter’s dismay.
Crazy Pets and Secrets Revealed is a lovely read, and it highlights the need for families to work together through challenging times and acknowledges that parents can struggle and that children are often wiser than we give them credit for.
