We recently received a copy of Desmond’s Dragon by A J Stairmand, and whilst our picture book days are largely behind us, I knew a dragon would get my son interested.
In Desmond’s Dragon we meet young Desmond Biggles who is five and three-quarters who is fascinated by dragons. I think he’d get on quite well with my son. They both love visiting museums although Desmond wishes dinosaurs were dragons, unlike my son.
He sets up a Dragon Club at school and all the children dressed their pets up as dragons with mixed results.
One night all of Desmond’s wishes came true when he discovered a baby dragon was lost outside his house. He took young Clive home and got him comfy in his bedroom. In the morning Desmond’s Mum got quite a shock.
We follow Desmond’s Dragon as the two head off to school with all sorts of fun and games. Clive is quite a naughty dragon but the children all adore him. But of course someone is missing young Clive, will his mother find him?
I won’t ruin the whole story, but Desmond’s Dragon is a charming 37 page picture book that dragon lovers are bound to enjoy.
The book is available from Waterstones priced at £6.99. To find out more about other books A J Stairmand, visit http://www.annestairmand.co.uk.
