On Saturday we travelled over to Milton Keynes with friends to spend some time enjoying Dinosaur World Live which was being performed at Milton Keynes Theatre. Although we’ve been to Milton Keynes loads of times over the years, we’ve never been to the theatre there, so were interested to see the performance and to experience the venue for the first time.
There is a multi storey car park within a couple of minutes walk from the Milton Keynes theatre and everything is well signposted. Pricing was also really reasonable, and you’re close to the main shopping area too, with lots of places to eat, making the area a great place to visit with children.
We had seats in row L of the stalls and there were perfect for our eight and nine-year old boys to see everything clearly.
Dinosaur World Live is an interactive show aimed at children aged 3 years and over and photography is actively encouraged throughout the performance. Something I’ve never come across before. It was great for families to actually be able to take away memories from their time enjoying Dinosaur World Live, and it didn’t hinder the performance for anyone else.
We meet Miranda, a young girl who grew up on a strange island, and island with some rather rare inhabitants, dinosaurs! Throughout Dinosaur World Live, she introduces the audience to a number of these animals, ranging from a Segnosaurus, to a couple of Triceratops and even the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
There were a number of opportunities for children to go up on stage and help Miranda with the dinosaurs and the show had a bit of a pantomime feel to it at times, making for a fun family performance. We did feel that the show was probably best suited for children in Key Stage One, but our boys did enjoy the overall puppetry of the dinosaurs and the educational facts that were included in the show.
The dinosaurs were really well choreographed around the stage, and really did look rather impressive. You often forgot that there were puppeteers manoeuvring them.
I won’t ruin the plot for you but enjoying Dinosaur World Live is unlike anything we’ve seen before and you could see that the children were glued to the action on stage.
The show lasts for just over an hour, and there’s a chance to meet a couple of the dinosaurs after the show. My son held back from this, but plenty of children enjoyed getting close to the dinosaurs outside of the theatre.
