Find Another Place – book review

Find Another Place – book review

With a strong interest in my own family history I was interested to find out more about the Ben Graff book Find Another Place, which was published through Matador Books earlier this year.

Find Another Place

This is unlike most books that I read as Find Another Place is an autobiography, but one where the author shares letters and journals from his grandparents as he learns more about his family and their past.

Ben’s grandfather Martin, gave him his journal in 2001 and so began his journey of discovery.  As he learned more about his childhood and that of his own father.  It unlocks issues in relationships and gives an account of lives, loves and aspects of his family he really didn’t know anything about.

It’s a poignant read and something I could relate to.  My father gave me his mother’s photograph album before he emigrated to Spain over a decade ago.  It was the first time I’d seen photos of her and her family and it opened up a world that I now treasure.  To have letters and journals must be even more special and Find Another Place showed me once again how important it is that we keep these things safe and make time to really understand our parents and grandparents more.  Sadly, we so often take them and their stories for granted until it is too late.

Find Another Place shows us the great love that the author has for his children and his honesty is showing the imperfections within his own family dynamic.  Read it, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

I’ve included my amazon Affiliate link below if you’d like to read Find Another Place for yourself.

Over 40 and a Mum to One

A Mum with a 13 year old son, enjoying life and having fun as my son travels through school life. We love to get outdoors whenever possible and make the most of the world around us. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
