My son has loved toys with a construction element ever since he was a toddler. Right back to the wooden blocks stage of building a tower and then knocking it down, construction has formed a vital element to his play time. Even aged nearly nine, that hasn’t really changed. He’s recently been having fun with Strictly Briks Trap and Gap Baseplates and I can see these being a foundation for a lot of play in the months to come.
Aimed at children aged 5 years and over, having fun with Strictly Briks Trap and Gap Baseplates (Amazon affiliate link) will see children learning about the basics of building construction as they build pillars to hold their creation together. The set is classed as a STEAM educational toy, having elements of some or all of Science, Technology. Engineering, Art and Maths. So whilst having fun, they are learning on the go too.
This set consists of 2 10″ x 10″ stackable baseplates in grey and green, 2 10″ x 10″ baseplates with traps and gaps in blue and grey, as well as 15 stackers in various colours.
As a parent I’m always a little bit dubious of building brick sets that aren’t produced by the market leader, but I’m rather impressed with this set. It’s our first experience of Strictly Briks, in general the build quality is good and the plastic is sturdy.
The pieces fit together well and the trap doors which make the ramps can be pushed either way to be above or below the base plate, or if you wanted you could have them flat too, to be just a normal baseplate. Although, in my son’s opinion that would be a total waste.
We’ve found the trap doors a little stiff to open, and I think a five-year old would definitely need some help, but I’m guessing with more use, these will become easier to open. Not only do you have that trapdoor element offering a world of possibilities with ramps, but these trap doors also have an adjustable ramp element to offer added height and length to the fun.
My son has found having fun with Strictly Briks Trap and Gap Baseplates easy, and he’s loved the flexibility that the set has offered him. He started with the suggested construction shown on the box.
But soon decided that he’d like to use the stackers to give more clearance to the ramps so he could fully extend them.
Apparently he’s going to use the green baseplate to put a building on that can use his new car park. The ramp sizes work well with his smaller toy cars and he’s been having a very different version of the Monaco Grand Prix with them racing up and down the different levels!
Their range is also 100% guaranteed to be compatible with all major brands and I can confirm that. My son has used building blocks from a major brand and they fit really well with these baseplates. So this set has become a great add-in to his existing toys. Car parking bays are currently under construction.
So if you’re looking for something a little different for your construction fan then we are sure they’ll be having fun with Strictly Briks Trap and Gap Baseplates. I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below for your reference. (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases).
