If you’ve followed the blog for any length of time then you will know I have a huge Cressida Cowell fan here. My son has been lucky enough to meet her and we’ve read all of her books. Today sees the release of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand from Universal Picture Home Entertainment.
It’s hard to believe that the How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World DVD brings the adventures of Hiccup and Toothless to an end. The third film in the series really is rather magical and a little sad in places too. We’ve loved watching the film again, having been lucky enough to be invited to a special viewing before the film was originally released.
As with all the films and books, this one has a firm message about friendship and destiny. The island of Berk has become overpopulated with all the dragons that Hiccup and his friends have been saving. It’s time to find a new home for everyone, the Hidden World that Hiccup can remember his father talking about in the past. Is the Hidden World a mystical place spoken of only in Viking tales, or does it really exist? A place where all dragons can live in peace? It’s time for Hiccup, Astrid and their friends to go on their latest adventure.
Grimmel the Grisly is introduced as the new villain, he wants to lure Toothless, the only known Night Fury into a trap, using the captured female Light Fury as bait. Toothless and the Light Fury are attracted to each other but his inability to fly without Hiccup to pilot him is causing him problems so Hiccup makes him an artificial tail.
As they escape from Grimmel and discover the Hidden World, Hiccup realises that this is a place only for dragons, somewhere for them all to be safe, but it’s not home for humans and he must say goodbye to his faithful friend.
I won’t ruin the rest of the plot, but we’ve really enjoyed the last instalment in the trilogy and it neatly finishes the story. If you click on the link below you can print out a selection of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World colouring sheets and activities.
