Today I want to share with you a book I’ve recently finished that I couldn’t put down, and with long sunny days ahead, it would make a perfect holiday read in my opinion. If you love a plot that keeps you guessing, then read on! Into the Fire by Rachael Blok is published through Head of Zeus and is a wonderful psychological thriller and the third in a series featuring Dutch detective Janssen.
In Into the Fire, we meet sisters Lois and Ebba Munch who are throwing a launch party for their new venture: Archipelago, a virtual reality game at their stately mansion in Hertfordshire. With the help of their team member Iqbal, they have invited their investors to the launch who include British couple, Richard and Sarah Arkwright, Swedish financier Aksel Larsen, Dutch banker Filip Schmidt and his movie star wife Sophie Atwood, and controversial politician Marieke Visser.
Marieke has been receiving hate mail and it’s reached the point where her life is considered to be endangered and DCI Maarten Jansen is brought in, to try to uncover the culprit and keep Marieke and the other guests safe. But when a helicopter carrying eight of the group crashes just after take off and one of the guests dies, it soon becomes clear that there is a murderer at large.
The novel is told from the point of view of various characters and moves between the past and present as their stories entwine and the plot develops. Into the Fire has everything you want from a good page-turner, lots of twists and turns, a range of colourful characters, and a plotline that leaves you guessing to the end. Love, hate, lies, and business ethics are all thrown into the mix in this beautifully written thriller. I couldn’t put it down which is always the best indication of a great read in my opinion.
