Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk – review and giveaway

Fee Fi Fo Fum! Immortal words spoken at the first Pantomime I ever went to as a child at the Princes Hall in Aldershot.  Jack and the Beanstalk has been a favourite of mine since I was a young child and I’ve been introducing Monkey to the latest version retold by John Cech which was released earlier this month.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk has been a much loved tale through the generations, right back from when it was first published in 1734.  The Robert Mackenzie illustrations work so well with this retelling of a classic fairy tale.

Jack and the Beanstalk

We follow Jack on his adventures from the moment he sells his family cow for a bag of beans, watch as the beanstalk grows up high and read on in wonder as he climbs up high.

Monkey loved reading about Jack outwitting the Giant and not being caught as he hid from him in the Giant’s house.  We read on as Jack stole the golden egg laying goose and the never-ending sack of gold coins.

I’d forgotten that the giant’s poor wife decides to run away with Jack in the end and brings his magical harp with her.  It’s a lovely story and a true classic which will keep the children entertained.  The paperback version is available for £5.99, and I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below for you.

  1. We like Billy Goats Gruff, it was my favourite when i was a child and now my twin boys love it too. We like the troll x

  2. The Goose Girl – has the perfect mix of scary and magical. I remember enjoying reading it to myself when I was little, and loved reading it to my daughter too.

  3. I loved rumplestiltskin! Such a fun word to say as a child and the Princess takes control of the situation!

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
