July saw the publication of Lowdown Road by Scott Von Doviak, and I’ve not had the chance to share more about it with you until now. If you like fast-paced action then this is the novel for you.
Lowdown Road is set in America during the summer of 1974, at a time when the dare devil motorcyclist Evel Knievel is planning to jump across Snake River Canyon on a rocket powered motorcycle.
We meet Texan cousins, Chuck and Dean Melville, Chuck is six months out of prison and about to bring a whole heap of trouble down on Dean. There are a range of characters which are interwoven into the storyline of this crime thriller and their various stories are played out between the chapters, but ultimately they are woven together and all heading to one explosive destination.
Drugs, violence, guns and a sheriff seeking revenge provide the backbone for this novel, which can be quite gruesome at times. But you do become invested in the cousins and their story, even the drug dealer Antoine, has some redeeming features and you want them all to succeed, even though you know it’s all going to go horribly wrong.
The plotline is well written and keeps you on your toes throughout. Lowdown Road is definitely worth looking at, it’s a quick read but packs a punch nonetheless.
