On Saturday I took Monkey into Oxford using the Park and Ride – a trip on a bus is a rare treat for him. We had a special date with someone I remember from my own childhood as Monkey meets the Honey Monster.
The Honey Monster is touring the Midlands to share some of his yummy Honey Monster Puffs – they have 20% more honey than the cereal I grew up with!
I wasn’t sure how Monkey would react to the Honey Monster when we saw him in the Westgate shopping centre. I’d explained that he was a nice monster, not a scary one. But Monkey still wasn’t totally convinced.
We’d arranged to meet up with Galina from Chez Maximka and her little boy Eddie. Would Eddie be a bit braver than Monkey? Whilst the Honey Monster was having a break I tried to prepare my little man for his meeting, all seemed to be going well at this point.

But when Monkey meets the Honey Monster for real, then Mummy has to come too!

Bless him, he just wasn’t sure. But there were lots of other children who loved meeting the Honey Monster, and I obviously had to get in on the act. I am a big kid after all!

If you’d like to take your kids to meet the Honey Monster and try out some of the Honey Monster Puffs, then there is still time. You can find him around the Midlands for the next few weeks:
14th Feb High Cross Leicester
15th Feb Queensgate Peterborough
21st Feb Gloucester Quays Gloucester
22nd Feb Crown Gate Shopping Centre Worcester
28th Feb Merry Hill Shopping Centre Dudley, West Midlands
1st March Star City Birmingham
If you do pop along then make sure to tag any photos with #funmonsterfied when you load them to the Honey Monster Facebook or Twitter pages – you could win a prize!
After all the excitement of meeting the Honey Monster for real, it was time for the real test. What did we think of the Honey Monster Puffs themselves?
The Honey Monster Puffs are just as light and fluffy as I remember, and even though they have 20% more honey in them these days, they didn’t taste overally sweet in my opinion. They are a great source of fibre, contain no artificial colourings, preservatives or flavours and are also low in salt and fat.
So will you be #funmonsterfied over the half term holidays?
disclaimer: we were given a goodie bag for meeting the Honey Monster, our thoughts remain our own honest opinions
Oh the photos are so cute, he loves his Honey Monster! x
Oh wow, this brought back some childhood memories! Glad that the Honey Monster wasn’t too scary and love that last photo 🙂
My daughter love Honey monster! We are going to meet him on 1 march if everything went well! Looking forward to meet him!
I’m not sure which one of you had the most fun looking at the photos of you both.
It looked like you had a lovely cuddle with him even if Monkey wasn’t so sure!!
Aww Monkey’s so cute hugging a mini-Monster. I suppose being hugged by a big hairy creature could be too overwhelming. And I do love the photo of you with the Honey Monster.
That photo of the 2 of you is gorgeous. I guess they’ve upped the honey to remove the sugar?
