Sand Art fun with Kids Bee Happy

Earlier this month I visited Spring Fair in Birmingham and I’d been tweeting with a few companies beforehand.  I was intrigued by one invitation especially as there was talk of mess free crafting!  Yes, I hold my hands up, I do like crafting with Monkey, but I’m not a great fan of mess.  Sorry, but that’s the truth! But I can happily tell you that we have been having fun and not been getting messy! Monkey has been having Sand Art fun with Kids Bee Happy.

Kids Bee Happy supply a number of different Sand Art packs, the one we received contains six picture templates, tubes of coloured (non-toxic dyes are used) sand, sticks, plastic sealable bags and mounting hooks.

To keep everything tidy it’s recommended that you place your Sand Art pictures on a tray before starting – this worked well for us.

So how does it work?  You use the little plastic sticks provided to peel off sections of the picture to reveal an adhesive base.  Select the colour of sand you want to use, unscrew the lid and away you go.  The same comes out of a small hole in the nozzle so no mess.  The sand sticks to the exposed area and you can shake off any excess into a tray.  We found that by having a small brush to hand we could persuade more of the excess to stick to the picture.

The sets are aimed at anyone from the age of 3 years upwards and we’ve had great fun with them.

Monkey decided to make the football picture first.  So I explained the concept and then he was off.

The plastic sticks are small enough for a 5 year old to hold easily and he managed to remove most sections with no help at all.  Mummy was just called in for small sections, and to make sure he kept his footballer’s eyes and mouth whilst removing the rest of the face.

He really loved being able to put different colour sand in different areas of his picture.  I honestly thought that there would be a lot of mixed up colours, but no, not at all.

We did find that some colours seemed to flow better than others, but Monkey was totally absorbed with his Sand Art activity.  It really was lovely to watch.

He was so proud of his finished picture.  I did say he could use more sane to give the pitch and sky a deeper colour, but no, Mummy, I like it like this.

With Easter getting ever closer we decided to focus on the Rabbit picture next – our Easter Bunny Sand Art picture.

Once again, Monkey was totally absorbed, his concentration levels are so much better now he’s a bit older.

For more information on these Sand Arts Kits pop over to the Kids Bee Happy website, you can buy direct and they also supply party kits which I think is a great idea.

I’ve been really impressed with this set, it’s easy for children to use, they make their own decisions on colours and it’s great for hand eye coordination.  The self sealing sleeves are a great idea for keeping the finished artwork contained and I can honestly say, there was hardly any ‘mess’ at all, just a little bit of sand left on the tray.  A winner all round.

disclaimer:  we were sent this kit in exchange for an honest review
