Schleich Wildlife Starter Set

I’ve loved taking my son to the zoo since he was a baby, and 7 years on, it’s still one of his favourite excursions. We’ve been talking about our last visit to Whipsnade Zoo and the new Schleich Wildlife Starter Set has helped to rekindle some lovely memories.

The Schleich Wildlife Starter Set is aimed at children aged 3-6 years, and for £14.99 you get a male lion, zebra, baby African elephant and chimpanzee.  I’ve been a fan of the Schleich range of animals for a long time now.  They really are beautifully detailed and are such good quality.

You may recall that we reviewed the Big Adventure at the Waterhole playset last year.  The Schleich Wildlife Starter Set is a perfect addition to that set, but the animals work just as well by themselves.

Apparently our lion was rather hungry when he arrived and soon spotted a rather tasty looking zebra to feast upon. My son is now 7 and fully aware of the differences between carnivores and herbivores, so his play time can be rather realistic at times!

But even with his more accurate play, there’s still time for his chimpanzee to go for a bare back ride on the zebra, who seems to have shaken off the hungry lion.

Each of the animals are so recognisable for children and are the perfect size for little hands.

We always try to follow the Whipsnade elephants when they go for the daily walk around the grounds, it’s a real highlight for my son.  They’ve got a couple of baby elephants now and my son was thrilled to now have one too for his elephant family.

We’ve had a selection of Schleich animals for a number of years now.  They are as popular today as they’ve ever been with my son.  They are the kind of toys that last really well, they do actually withstand hours of play, look realistic and the animals legs are sturdy, meaning they will actually stand up.  My son has never been disappointed with any animals he’s received or bought from the range and the Schleich Wildlife Starter Set is no exception.
