Simbrix Cute Set

Simbrix Cute Set

As you all know my 7 year old son loves building and creating things from nothing.  He’ll turn 8 next month, and his manual dexterity is rather wonderful to watch these days.  We were recently sent the Simbrix Cute Set to try out, and I was eager to have a look at it myself too.

If you’ve not heard of Simbrix before, then let me tell you that they are small construction pieces which can be connected to make 2D shapes. Once you’ve completed your design the bricks stay together without needing to be fixed together with glue or by ironing.  You can either display your finished piece, or easily take it apart and build something new. The Simbrix Cute Set is aimed at children aged 6 years and over and comes with a stackable carry case, 1000 Simbrix in assorted colours, a couple of stickers and an Inspiration Deck of design ideas.

The Simbrix brix are perfect for small hands to connect together, but of course this mother wasn’t going to be left out in the cold!  I wanted to try the kit for myself too.

The Inspiration Pack includes double-sided design ideas for 4 different Simbrix sets, which I didn’t realise until I started working on a design and found out I didn’t have the correct coloured bricks in our Simbrix Cute Set.  The design cards are colour coded, and I’ve now separated them out, as I know only too well from experience how frustrated little builders get when they can make suggested ideas.

Back on track, it was time to have some fun.  The design cards are easy to follow and the brix connect really easily together.

It wasn’t long before my 7 year old took over and he very quickly got to grips with how the brix connected to create numerous designs.

Once he’d built a couple of things from the Inspiration Cards, he was happy to branch out and try his own designs, and his favourite to date is his backhoe loader.

I can’t imagine it will be too long before he’s designed a steam train too.

Priced at £18.00 the Simbrix Cute Set is available to pre-order (due for release during November) on the Simbrix website.  There will also be larger sets launched this month and you can also buy single colour 200 brix packs in 17 different colours for £3.00 per pack.

disclosure:  we were sent the item mentioned in exchange for an honest review
