Smelly Louie

Smelly Louie

I’ve been amazed by how clean Monkey has been when he’s come home from school since starting Year One.  There were days when he came home from the Nursery and Reception classes where I seriously thought he must have rolled in every puddle going, had a mud bath shower and sprinkled himself with glue, glitter and god only knows what else!  Sound familiar? Well, we’ve been reading a picture book about a dog who is a bit like that too. Smelly Louie is written and illustrated by Catherine Rayner and was published through Pan Macmillan in July this year.

Smelly Louie

Smelly Louie has a smell, his own special fragrance, eau de dog.  It’s obviously not as appreciated by his owners who give him a lovely bath to freshen him up. Poor Louie wants his special smell back so we follow him on his adventures as he tries to track it down.

His research sees him meeting up with a fix and comparing notes, sniffing around an old boot and saying hello to flies around a bin.  Where has his special smell gone?

Smelly Louie

Of course rolling around in a puddle would definitely help restore his favourite fragrance. Ring any bells Monkey?

It wasn’t long before the precise concoction that Smelly Louie needed for his special smell had returned and he headed home, head held high.  What do you think his owners had waiting for him there?

Monkey really likes this story and it had me giggling too.  Any parent, will identify with this book, especially if they are a pet owner too.  We give it a big thumbs up.  Priced at £6.99 my Amazon Affiliate link is shown below for your reference.
