STEM Activity series from Carlton Books – review and giveaway

STEM Activity series from Carlton Books – review and giveaway

I have another range of books to share with you today to inspire children and help with their learning at school.  The STEM Activity series from Carlton Books is aimed at children aged 7 years and over, perfect for KS2.  There are four books in the range covering Maths, Technology, Science and Engineering.

As with the STEM Quest series we reviewed recently, I’m going to be using the STEM Activity series from Carlton Books to augment what my son is learning in class in Year Four.  These 64 page books are designed to educate whilst having fun, and my reluctant reader will be reading without really thinking about it too.  A winner on all scores.

The first book in the series is Amazing Maths, is crammed full of activities covering topics such as multiplication, fractions and polygons.

I often struggle to get my son to focus on his Maths homework from school, so I’m hoping that these colourful activities will help him to grasp what’s he’s learning in class, in a fun way.  I know he’s been learning about Roman Numerals recently as he’s been quizzing us at home, and we’ve used examples when talking about different kings and queens.  The activities in Amazing Maths take that learning a little further and have really made him think too.

Each activity is engaging, with clear instructions and talks about items that will be familiar to children.  The STEM Activity series from Carlton Books also provides facts behind the different mathematical theories and the mathematicians behind them.

In Extreme Engineering children learn about a range of topics such as bridge construction which my son loves, irrigation and water power, wheels and friction as well as robots and driver less cars.

From mazes to navigate to spot the difference pictures, each activity helps children to get a better understanding of each topic covered.

The books are ideal for an activity to keep kids amused when travelling too.  We’re off on a car trip at the weekend, and the STEM Activity series from Carlton Books will be keeping my son busy whilst I’m driving.

Terrific Technology looks at different machines, materials and advances in genetics, as well as buoyancy, magnets and motors.

The book looks at fulcrums and levers, pulleys and talks about metals, whether they are pure or alloys as well as looking at printing presses.  As with all the other books in the series, this book is full of information and fun facts.

Sensational Science has gone down well here, as my son seems to be loving science related topics this year in school.  The book looks at the universe and solar system as well as x-rays, energy, and magnets.

After a visit to the Science Museum at the weekend, this book is perfect to revisit what my son learned when we were there, as well as building on his school work too.

I’ve been really impressed with the STEM Activity series from Carlton Books and the activities included in the books.  Anything that helps engage my son is a winner for me and these books will be well used in the months ahead.

Over 40 and a Mum to One

A Mum with a 13 year old son, enjoying life and having fun as my son travels through school life. We love to get outdoors whenever possible and make the most of the world around us. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.
