Off Road Rover

Thames & Kosmos Engineering Makerspace – AD sent for review #EngineeringMakerspace

I’m always looking for new ways to entertain my construction mad nine-year-old son and he’s been having great fun with the Off-Road Rovers set which is one of the new kits in the Thames & Kosmos Engineering Makerspace range.

Off Road Rover

The sets are aimed at children aged 8 years and over and offer a range of STEM challenges as children build machines, gadgets, robots and off-road rovers.

The set we received, the Off-Road Rover set contains parts to make 10 different vehicles and full build instructions for all of them are included in the manual provided.

Thames & Kosmos Engineering Makerspace sets are a great way for children to have fun whilst learning about belt drives, movement and tank treads.  You will need 2 x AA batteries (not included) to operate the various models in the sets.

Although we both felt that some of the diagrams could have been a bit clearer to read, my son has happily built three different models so far with very little assistance.

So far he’s enjoyed building the Stair Walker, Conveyor Belt and Paper Plane Launcher.  It’s very easy to take each model apart using the tool provided, but that’s not to say that the builds aren’t sturdy, because they are.

He’s liked the variety of builds that the Thames & Kosmos Engineering Makerspace Off-Road Rovers set provides and I’m sure he’ll be working his way through the rest of the builds in the weeks and months to come.
