The Coming Darkness

Today I’m sharing my thoughts on the newly published The Coming Darkness by Greg Mosse as part of a blog tour.  This is Greg’s first novel which is set in the future, which is something new for me too, as I normally prefer historical fiction novels.  But I was gripped by the storyline of this book and really the fact that it is set in the future didn’t bother me at all.

We are in 2037, in a world where deadly viruses have caused chaos (don’t we all know about that now!) global warming has really taken its toll, and trouble is most definitely brewing.  In The Coming Darkness, we meet Alexandre Lamarque, a French secret agent who is tasked with uncovering a ring of global eco-terrorists.  He has the power to see into the future and has a sense that darkness is coming, and coming fast.

The Coming Darkness

The Coming Darkness takes us from Paris to North Africa via Norway and we follow Alex as he tries to uncover the link between a number of child murders and a coup in a breakaway state in North Africa, whilst witnessing his mother becoming the latest victim of the virus.  In a world where people are tracked and everything is under surveillance, Alex doubts that he can trust anyone, whether that be his lover Mariam or his mentor Professor Fayard.

There’s quite a complex plot to The Coming Darkness, and you do need to stick with it at the beginning, but it’s worth it, there are twists and turns, drama, and some great characters.  You become heavily invested in Alex and his search for the truth in this intense thriller.  I’ll definitely be on the lookout for Greg’s next novel.  I’ve included a link below (I do earn from qualifying purchases) in case you fancy picking up a copy of The Coming Darkness for yourself.
