You may remember that Monkey went to see the premiere of the Thomas and Friends film Tale of the Brave in London back in the summer. As he is obsessed with Thomas and Dinosaurs I knew he’d be interested to try out the new Thomas and Friends Take-n-Play Roaring Dino Run Playset.
This new Thomas and Friends Playset is aimed at children aged 3 years and above and can be played with as a stand alone set or added to other Stay N Play sets. The playset requires 2 x AA batteries which are included (smiley face).
There is minimal construction required to put the Thomas and Friends Take-n-Play Roaring Dino Run Playset together – it took me a matter of a couple of minutes.
The set comes with three dinosaur bones, a Thomas train and a flat-bed carriage. The three dinosaur bones are placed into the side of the mountain and the trap door is set.
You place Thomas on the platform, raise it up and watch him fly over the bridge as the dinosaur fossil appears from the mountain.
As Thomas passes under the bridge he triggers the release of the trap door and the three fossil bones are released!
It’s then up to Thomas to deliver the bones to the Sodor Museum on the other side of the play set.
Once Monkey arrived at the Museum with Thomas and his fossils he had to work out where each one fitted on the side of the wall to complete the dinosaur exhibit. A Great activity to work on hand eye coordination and problem solving skills.
From a parents point of view I can’t really understand the design of part of this set. It would make more sense to me if the dinosaur bones dropped into a waiting carriage, rather than into a pen. Also the carriage can only fit one bone at a time, perhaps play could be extended if the trap door only released one bone at a time?
But from a nearly 5-year-old Monkey’s point of view none of that mattered. He was more than happy to ferry one bone around at a time. He loved the dinosaur roars that can be activated by the button next to the trap door or when the dinosaur appears from the mountain. Any dinosaur loving Thomas fan is going to be happy with this set. monkey has certainly enjoyed playing with it.
There is a carry handle on top of this play set, and once folded up it’s very portable. We took it away with us last weekend, it really is an ideal toy to take on UK holidays as well as being a much played with toy at home.
The Thomas and Friends Take-n-Play Roaring Dino Run Playset normally retails for around £34.99 but can be currently found on offer at Argos and Toys R Us for £29.99 – a Christmas bargain to be had there!
disclaimer: we were sent this set in exchange for an honest review

Over 40 and a Mum to One
A Mum with a 13 year old son, enjoying life and having fun as my son travels through school life. We love to get outdoors whenever possible and make the most of the world around us. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.
My son had one of these Take N Play sets for his birthday a few weeks ago, and he plays with it so much. And as you say, very handy for carrying around, too.
Lovely set! Look so fun!
This looks great, nice to see something a bit different too from the normal train sets.
