Treads School Shoes

Treads School Shoes – a review

I have an eight year old son as you all know, whilst he isn’t one for kicking a football around the school play ground, he does like to have the odd adventure or two.  some days I really am left guessing as to what exactly he’s been up to, he comes home covered in mud, paint, glue and that’s just his uniform.  His poor school shoes don’t get left out and they tend to look rather shabby very quickly.  So when I heard about Treads school shoes and their 12 month indestructible guarantee, my ears pricked up.  Shoes that might actually last?

Treads School Shoes

Since my son started school we’ve gone through the whole scuffed toes on the first day of wearing new shoes period.  These days he’s much better at picking his feet up as he walks, but his feet have also stopped growing at quite the rate they have done in the past.  It used to be that he’d grown out of a pair of shoes far quicker than wearing them out.  But the last year or two we have actually gone a whole half year before he’s feet have gone up a size again.  Great in one way, but it’s definitely made me aware of other issues with school shoes.  For us weak stitching has resulted in me having to buy new shoes when they really shouldn’t have been needed on more than one occasion.  It’s not cheap either is it.

The single parent behind Treads school shoes has had the same experience and has spent the last two years researching and testing shoe designs with the ultimate goal, to make them actually last.  They’ve now launched a range of boys school shoes, and a range for girls shoes will follow next year.

You can order online, and there are clear measuring guides to check on the shoe size required before ordering.  We’d only recently had my son measured so I was confident that he was close to a 3.5 in size, so we opted for a size 4 from Treads.  There are styles available with velcro fastening or laces and as my son hasn’t grasped the whole tying laces thing yet we went for the velcro option, picking the Sydney shoe.  This way I knew he could confidently change his shoes for PE and back again, without any issues.

The shoes come with reinforced heals and as the shoes are constructed using the ‘strobel’ method of placing the upper into a mould and then the sole is injected around it, it means that there is no gluing involved to keep the shoe together.  They use Permair leather which is breathable and water-resistant, making them perfect for an active eight year old.  The seams are also reinforced so I’m looking forward to them lasting through the punishment they will be facing in the months to come.  They also come with a removable foot bed for children, like my son who have wider feet, providing a more comfortable fit all round.

My son’s new Treads School Shoes certainly look the part and I’ll be interested to see how they perform in the months to come.  My son has certainly given them the thumbs up for comfort and they’re still looking as good as new at the moment.  They’ve worn well at school and have withstood a couple of after school trips to the park already.

Not only do Treads School Shoes come with a 12 month indestructible guarantee, but they come at a really good price too.  Normally on sale for £45, there’s a current offer for the range at £35.  Bargain.
