Vegetables but not as we know them, with Goodlife

As you all know, my son is a rather fussy eater and I’m always on the look out for new ideas to tempt him.  I have to say that he will eat broccoli, cauliflower and carrots until the cows come home, but could he be tempted with something a little different.  It was time to taste some vegetables but not as we know them, with Goodlife.

With a fruit and veg distributor in the family, we have a supply of fresh vegetables on tap, so I’ve never really looked at different alternatives if I’m totally honest.  But I am in need of some inspiration so when Goodlife contacted me recently, I wanted to see what they have to offer.  They source the best vegetables from across the country and use them for their frozen vegetable based meals.

Falafel have always been a winner here so I was pretty confident that the Goodlife Falafel with Chickpeas, Cumin and Coriander.  They took 15 minutes to cook in the oven from frozen and were ready as a snack after school.  They were full of flavour and no comment was made by my fussy son, which is a positive thing!

We are all fans of Chicken Kiev in this house so I wanted to see how he’d react to trying vegetables but not as we know them, with Goodlife, and their Mushroom and Spinach Kiev.  They come filled with a garlic and creamy cheese sauce and can be cooked from frozen in a number of ways.  I opted for 20 minutes in the oven and they did taste really nice.  The breadcrumbs are seeded and add that extra texture and I really enjoyed this twist on a family favourite.  My son, decided he wasn’t so keen on the sauce, but that’s more of a general ‘sauce’ issue than a reflection on the Goodlife product.

As a Mum often on the run, the thought of having a quick, healthy meal to hand is very appealing.  I’m also a curry lover, so I decided the Goodlife Vegetable Masala with Cauliflower Rice was all mine.  You can oven cook or microwave from frozen and I opted for the latter option on a busy day last week.  I needed a quick lunch option and the curry, full of red pepper and roasted sweet potato sounded fab.  I have no idea why I have never tried cauliflower rice before, but I’ll certainly be adding that to our meals in future as I know my son would love that idea.  Again, the curry was full of flavour, not too hot, but very enjoyable.  My son would have eaten that given the opportunity as he does actually like curries, well today anyway.

Vegetables but not as we know them, with Goodlife also gave me the opportunity to try to get Monkey to eat peas!  He used to love them as a baby and toddler, and then he hit three and my fussy eater arrived.  Peas have been a no go area ever since.  Could I get them past him in the form of petit pois, hidden in the Goodlife French Bean and Spinach Sausages?  He loves sausages, so I was hopeful. Daddy P and I both enjoyed them, and blended with the Wensleydale Cheese, they are definitely something we’d both eat again, sadly my son wasn’t so convinced, but I’ve already spotted that Goodlife make Tomato and Mozzarella sausages, which I know for a fact he’d really enjoy.

So, whilst I may not have totally won my son over, I’ve certainly been impressed with the options we’ve tried from Goodlife so far, and am looking forward to adding other alternatives to my next Sainsburys shopping order.  They certainly have an interesting range of vegetarian options available, you can find out more on their website, along with your local stockist information.
