Wake Up Do, Lydia Lou! – a book review

disclosure:  we were sent this book for the purpose of review – our comments, however, remain our own, honest opinions.

Last month saw the latest Julia Donaldson book published by PanMacmillian – Wake Up Do, Lydia Lou!

Wake Up Do, Lydia Lou!

Monkey absolutely loves every Julia Donaldson book we own, so I was pretty confident that this was likely to be a winner.  I wish I was young enough to have read her books as a child too!!

This book is illustrated by Karen George, they are bold and amusing and suit the story well.

Lydia is a little girl, who apparently can sleep through anything! A cheeky ghost tries to wake Lydia up by making lots of noise- he wants to scare her and make her scream – naughty ghost.

I liked the fact that this, is in no way a girly book – no pink blitz.  There is a lot of repetitive rhyming within the story so my son, aged just over 3 and half years, soon memorised bits and shouted out, to join in as we turned the pages.

There are different fonts to emphasise certain sounds throughout the book, Monkey was soon joining in with this too.  The ghost enlists the help of numerous animals in an attempt to stir Lydia from her sleep.

There is a twist to the tale at the end – I won’t ruin it for you.  We both love this book, it’s funny and enjoyable to read – we’d recommend it to any younger child.
