When I was working before Monkey was born I used to visit our Irish distributor in Dublin. Most of my visits were fleeting, but on one occasion I decided to fly in on a Sunday morning, so I could explore the city. I was so lucky, it was February, the sun was out and I spent a really pleasant day walking Dublin’s Tourist Trail. It’s a lovely city, one I’d love to go back to one day. Here are a few top tips for you:
Dublin’s a great city to wander around as its relatively compact size means it’s easy to navigate on foot. However if you really want to get under the skin of the city and find out what makes it tick, it’s a good idea to put yourself in the hands of the experts and go on one of the official tours of this fascinating city.
Bus Tours
Starting your trip with one of the hop-on-hop-off bus tours is a great way to get your bearings and get a good grounding in Dublin’s history. All the main attractions of the city are covered and you’re free to jump on and off if you catch sight of an attraction you want to see more of. Also, there are plenty of buses that go beyond the city itself if you fancy exploring some of the gorgeous scenery outside the city.
1916 Rebellion Walking Tour
The Easter Rising in 1916, when a group of rebels declared Ireland a Republic, is one of the most important dates in Ireland’s difficult and often bloody history. To find out more about Ireland’s path to becoming an independent country, it’s well worth spending a couple of hours taking part in this interesting, well-informed tour of the city.
Abbey Theatre Backstage Tour
This behind-the-scenes tour of Ireland’s National Theatre is a real gem. The theatre was founded by one of Ireland’s most famous writers, William Butler Yeats, and Lady Augusta Gregory in 1904 – and the tour provides a unique glimpse not just into the life of the theatre, but to Ireland’s cultural heritage as a whole.
After all that sightseeing, you’ll need a comfortable bed to recharge your batteries. A Travelodge hotel is the perfect place to get a good night’s sleep before another day of discovery.

It’s a lovely city.
I love Dublin. Our bus tour took us to the Guiness Factory and the a pub at the end for a lovely roast dinner.
I walked to the Guiness Factory when I was there, but decided if I went in, I might not be able to walk back again – lol
I have always fancied a trip to Dublin and bus tours are always a great way to see the whole of the city!

I went to Dublin once, at Christmas when I was 17. I would love to visit again, to be a tourist and appreciate it a bit more! x
It’s so walkable, which I really loved about it.
I’ve not been to Dublin but looks like lots of great things to keep you entertained. I love a city that’s easy to walk around and you can just take in the sites as you come across them.
It’s well worth a visit, I would love to go back one day.
